WILDLIFE PROTECTION ACT
What is Wildlife Protection Act of 1972?
Before the act was passed, hunting of wild animals was a common pastime! Uncontrolled
hunting led wild animals to the brink of extinction. Hence the Wildlife Protection Act was passed
in 1972 to protect our flora and fauna from mindless exploitation.
According to this Act, hunting of all wildlife specified in
schedule I, II, III and IV of the Act is prohibited. Commercial felling and exploitation
of all flora and fauna is banned in sanctuaries and national parks. There is complete ban
on export of all bird species.
Hunting equals killing, capturing, poisoning, snaring, and
trapping of any wild animal (this includes any attempt to do so), damaging eggs of wild
birds and reptiles or even disturbing them. |

According to the WWF, every year, 150,000,000 kg of
plastic, equal to the weight of 2,50,000 full grown African elephants, are used to bottle
drinking water. |
China, which has 20 per cent of the worlds population, consumes 30 per cent of the
worlds cigarettes. At this rate one third of all young people in China will
eventually be killed by tobacco related diseases. |
