Pollution free? Think again

$1.2 billion has been cleared to make a "pollution-free" hydrogen powered "freedom car". However up to 90% of all its hydrogen will be refined from the burning of fossil fuels. So much for freedom from pollution!

Make way for the plastic road

A 1.2 km stretch road was built near Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu using plastic waste blended with bitumen and rock aggregate. Plastic improves bonding and makes the roads survive the monsoons better. Now if only the rest of the country adapted this, it would kill two birds with one stone.

Red, green & yellow could soon denote noise pollution levels. Noise-labelling of consumer goods is likely to come into effect in India in 2004, in a move to promote a quieter
environment.
