What does a coffee
company do with unsold coffee? Recycle it of course! Nestle Japan Ltd. has been recycling
unsold instant coffee that had not been sold within three years of production for more
than three decades. The coffee is mixed with hot water and coffee bean extract and then
dried to make new coffee powder. The company then stamps a new expiry dates on the
product. Nestle Japan says it had stopped using products collected from store shelves in
2000 but continues to recycle its own unsold stockpiles.

 Recycling 1 ton of glass
saves the equivalent of 39 litres of oil.
Recycling glass reduces
air pollution by 14-20%.
glass saves 25-30% of the energy used to make glass
from virgin materials.
Since glass does not
break down, a bottle thrown in a landfill today would still be around in the year 3000.
