Gobar means animal dung in Hindi. All of rural India uses it in a variety of ways. Ways that exemplify sustainable existence. That's why we use it, too.

A big thanks for making the design a green vehicle contest a success. With creative inventors like you we can hope for a sustainable future for Planet Earth. Here are some of the best entries. Your prizes are on the way.

Car name: Mercedes — Tad SX — 91, Leaf Bug

The L-Bug is the fully matched four wheeled drivefor the future. The SX-91 is literally green. It is fully aerodynamic with zero drag and loss of fuel. The most special capability of this bug is its ability to run on water. It has a big tank (in blue) for storing water. The water is next transferred to the most unique part of the car, the electrolyser where it is separated into oxygen and hydrogen. The former is used for breathing by the driver, while hydrogen is used as a fuel. As hydrogen is fully burnt, no by-products, especially pollutants are left. It compromises on suspension as in the future there will be no bad roads! The main window / viewer (in blue) pops up to allow the passengers to get in. There is seating enough for two people and even space for luggage. The only competition it has is the humble and eco-friendly cycle.

Car name: Tanzi
Here is my design for the green car of the future, a non-polluting and emission free car — Tanzi. This car runs on hydrogen taken from water. The substance which will be released into the atmosphere is oxygen. Tanzi is a two-seater. A tank is fitted into the car, three chambers of which are filled withwater, oxygen and hydrogen. Water will be broken down into O2 and H2 by electrolysis. There are also a number of solar plates, which provide energy for the process of electrolysis. After electrolysis hydrogen is transferred to the engine and oxygen leaks out into the air. In case of water scarcity the solar plates which provide energy for electrolysis can be used as a power source. These plates can supply the power from the sun to the engine. This is my dream clean and green car. This car’s engine will not let out any harmful chemicals into the air, thus being totally non-polluting.

Car name: Hovering Eco Craft
The hovering eco craft is almost the same as a hovercraft except that this craft is eco-freindly. It works by having air sucked in by creating a vacuum using solar energy. The air is then pushed from the back and under it. Now this system is already used in hovercrafts. So why not in cars? The answer is simple. When a car’s tyres rub the ground, friction is created therefore slowing the car down and also wasting energy. Whereas a hovercraft does not touch the ground and so energy is not wasted...at all!

p67_3.jpg (32465 bytes)This is a design for a human powered car, designed for people who car-pool or travel short distances. It has an aeropdynamic design and requires low power input. The front and rear gear boxes are different so that the speed of the vehicle can be maintained at an even speed though the physical strength of the driver may differ. The vehicle is eco-friendly as it burns no toxic fuel and is therefore totally pollution free.
