The Official deal on Climate Change
World leaders met in Italian city of L’Aquila to find a solution but once again, they became a part of the problem (because they found nimtoo).
The G8 struck a deal and made a gentleman’s promise on climate change yet again (for another nimtoo). “We support a goal of developed countries reducing emissions of greenhouse gases in aggregate by 80 per cent or more by 2050 compared to 1990 or more recent years.” was written in paragraph 65 of the Press communiqué (nimtoo written between the lines)
But its no big deal after all!! Lets try to understand (what the nimtoo would hide), that in all such climate talks, emission cuts are bargained in percentage, like 80 per cent, 50 per cent, not absolute figures of tonnes of carbon (much to the convenience of Nimtoo). But to calculate the exact value of cut, one needs to know 80 per cent of what? What is the reference point? The answer completely depends on this point, for eg. 80 per cent of 100 is 80 while 80 per cent of 500 is 400. (Nimtoo knows that well). For emission cuts, the levels in a given year are chosen as the reference point and such a year is called the baseline (changes as per the Nimtoo). Thus baseline bargaining is an integral part of climate talks.

(Nimtoo experts) |
Irked by baffling repitition of nimtoo? Curious to know what is it? Who is it? It’s an ideology, its a philosophy, a practical mantra, the secret of success of many a world’s politicians. Nimtoo is an acronym for- Not In my Term Of Office. For a leader to promise to do something 41 years from now is the safest way of getting away with it. While it pacifies the current generation, it passes the buck to the next, differences and difficulties rising meanwhile.
Leaders today, postponing public outcry, reluctant to risk , they don’t want to try....
By 2050 none of the leaders would be in office for any accountability. Or would they be?… Nimtoo works!
