 A  PONDERING PANDITJI

Hey folks,

Myths. The dictionary describes them as things that are widely believed in, but are actually false. So when I stumbled on some articles on “environmental myths” published by a variety of eminent North American experts, I braced up for a serious dose of re-learning. But hey, even that could not stop me from collapsing in shock. Hmm... think I am just too naïve? Really? So you are ready to accept that ‘We are running out of natural resources’; ‘Recycling paper saves trees’; ‘Americans are specially wasteful’ are all blatant falsehoods? Wait, there are more. ‘Environmentalists are motivated by concern for the Planet’ is a laughable lie. And the world is being taken for a ride by all the Kyoto Protcol wallahs, who declare that cutting fossil fuel use is the only way to reduce Carbon dioxide emissions!

But what made me swoon were the ‘Facts’ the Western Gurus came up with after the myth-busting was done. ‘Technology can make resources last forever’, they said. And how can we live without cars because fossil fuels emit CO2? We, human beings, ‘need to’ make these trade-off decisions for better living...

But I said enough was enough. Time to shatter the Myths. Not the ones they trashed but, the ones they created. So, I present to you my set of myths and what I believe to be the real FACTS.
