Do you know that March is Fire Prevention Month in the Philippines? And that April 14-21 is Fire Safety Week in India? These events aim at spre=ading awareness about fire safety and control measures. And what is the first thing that we need to stop a fire? A fire extinguisher, of course. So, let’s find out what goes into its making…
The hand-held fire extinguisher is a pressure vessel from which a material (or agent) is released to put out a fire. The agent removes one or more of the three elements necessary to maintain fire – fuel, heat, and oxygen – the fire triangle. Once the fire triangle is broken, the fire goes out.
The commonly used agents are – water, chemical foam, dry powder, halon, and carbon dioxide (CO2). But, none of these agents is effective in fighting all types (classes) of fires.
