Hey
folks,
Last month I kept wondering if the world was going mad. Well, now I am told it is in a state of shock. Experts are calling it the ‘oil shock’. As prices of fuels scale dizzying heights, the Planet is shaking under its impact. Violently. Protest marches, strikes, political crises… almost every country in this Earth is feeling the heat. Human beings are still trying to deny the fact that the global stock of fossil energy is running out.
Now the blame game is on in full swing. Poorer nations say the rich are using too much; the rich accuse countries in the Middle East, who sell oil, of scrimping on supply. And all of them point a finger at India and China — for cranking up their consumption of oil and guzzling much, much more than they ever did before. The main issue is: the demand has hit the roof. But the supply has remained static. The stocks are not unlimited, you see…
So, is the future bleak and energy-less? Not really. The world may end tomorrow for a variety of reasons, but not because it lacks resources to produce energy. It is time to think beyond the barrel... to take the sustainable alternative sources more seriously. To get those fuel-swigging cars off the roads. To get more buses back on track. And finally — get going on our bicycles!
