GT GREEN SCHOOLS PROGRAMME |
If you think only schools can give report cards to their students, you are wrong. Now, even students can do so for their schools – through the Gobar Times Green Schools Programme.
GT-GSP is a ‘survey’ of environmental practices in a school done by its students (environmental auditing). The students go around the school, and find out how it is managing its water, energy, land, air and waste.
The audit is done with the help of an interesting handbook called the Green Schools Programme Manual. This manual gives step-by-step guidelines on how to conduct an environmental audit in the school.

Completion of a GSP report entitles schools to participate in the Gobar Times Green Schools Award. It is a yearly national award recognising the Top 20 Green Schools of the country. Every year, thousands of students produce report cards of their schools, and help them to improve and move towards becoming greener schools.

The monthly three-page activity sheets provide activities that environment enthusiasts may take up to know more about an environmental issue. The basic idea is to learn by doing or experiential learning.

EEU organises a get-together of all Gobar Times readers, Green School Programme participants and all other aspiring change-makers – Gobar Talk – on the 25th of every month. The discussion is based on the current issue of the magazine, along with any other key environmental concern that the participants are keen to raise. |

10 years, about 120 editions, innumerable issues, perspectives and solutions… This is Gobar Times. And if you want a taste of all these issues, watch out for the Gobar Times Plus – a compilation of all Gobar Times issues.
Manual on global warming
What if you could know exactly ‘how much’ you add to the problem of global warming? It would help you to check your actions and lifestyle, right?
So, here it is – EEU is coming out with a manual to assess an individual’s or an organisation’s contribution to global warming in the form of Carbon Dioxide and other Green House Gases emissions.
It also gives solutions to offset this effect through mitigation activities, and clearly brings out the differences in survival and luxury emissions.
Green Habitat manual
You already know about Green Schools Manual (for conducting the GT-GSP). Now, it is time to take it further – from schools to communities. The Green Habitat Manual will help you to assess a community’s relationship with its environment on five issues – water, air, land, energy and waste. And it will cater to both rural and urban communities.
Training programme for environment educators
