What is eco-tour?
The word eco-tour has different connotations for different people. The requirement is that you visit and get familiar with a particular place in order to catch its natural rhythm and find out its role in the ecosystem.
Eco-tours are holistic.
They are the ‘in-things’.
Yamuna Yatra, Gram Anubhav, Trekking are all forms of eco-tours.
You will be surprised to know that eco-tours can be conducted to
introduce any subject in an interactive way.

Pathways World School organised a river study!
Priyansi Gandhi, a student, says they started their journey of exploring environment through the subject Geography by conducting a river study on one of the streams flowing through the Ramnagar Division Forest.

What is a river study all about ?
Vivaan Misra, student
It is about studying the structure, character and route of the river bed to infer how these make up the river as we see it.
Ridhima Gupta, student
We studied the relation between the gradient of a stream and flow of water. The effect of water flow on the nature of sediment. The effect of size of sediment on water flow. The relation between width of the stream and the gradient. The breadth of the river bed. The impact of human settlement on the stream. In short, we studied all characteristics of the stream that are involved in forming its features.
Where can we conduct a river study?
Himontika Das,student
You can conduct a river study anywhere along a river but there are certain other conditions. Like the group must be able to cover the entire stretch, from the source to the confluence. The river should be safe for students, yet deep and fast enough to create salient features for the study.
Students of Pathways World school started with conducting a river study in the Ramnagar Division forest, District Nainital, Uttaranchal. The stream chosen originated from the hills extending from the Eastern bank of River Kosi. The name of the stream was the Jabar Sot (Sot is local word for stream).
How was the experience?
Chandani Harjani,student
The experience was out of this world. The beauty of the forests there is hard to describe in words. The quality and quantity of what all of us learnt was far beyond my expectation.

Salwan Public School (A) organised a nature camp!
Nature camp is something that most of us undertake some time in our lives.
Natural environment holds a special meaning for each one of us.
For some it is associated with the feeling of fear. While for most it means happiness and peace, says Ms Premlata Chaudhary, Environment Education teacher.
Where can we conduct a nature camp?
Nature camp can be conducted at any place that preserves the natural landscape that represents a particular type of eco-system. From the sands of Jaisalmer to the tropical evergreen forests of Arunachal Pradesh, from the alpine meadows of Kashmir to the white sands of the Indian Ocean at Cape Comorin. The only requisites for a nature camp are that people who come to visit appreciate the value of the natural ecosystem and enjoy being in it.
How was the experience?
When you are at the camp the experience is a mixed bag for most. Some find it really tough, some are exhilarated. But definitely, when you get back to the hustle and bustle of the city everyone reflects back to their experiences at camp forever. The bottom line is that a nature camp brings people closer to nature.
What all do the children study?
The students studied the alpine ecosystem present in the area. They studied natural cycles and realised the importance of fresh water.
