Tap water
harvesting
Various
schools in Delhi are harvesting spillage from drinking water points.
Buckets are placed to collect the water, which drains from the water
point area. The house keeping staff keeps emptying the water for use in
mopping or watering plants. Deepalaya, Kalkaji Extension, and Adarsh
School, Bali Nagar, are adopting this practice, while there are a few
which are planning to concretise the idea by building a tank to collect
the water.

Ridge Garden
Sanskriti School stands on a piece of land that was originally a part of
the famous Delhi Ridge. In a bid to recreate history, the school has
developed a ‘dry garden’ which is actually a replica of the now-vanished
ridge.
Students have planted species of grass, shrubs, and trees that were were
originally found in this area. So this little patch of green gives us a
glimpse of what Delhi looked like as a jungle.. many, many years ago.
By the way, students call it a dry garden because nobody waters the
area, it only survives on rain. So, in the winter months, such as now,
grass in the ‘ridge’ is dry unlike the plush lawns which surround it.
