I AM EXPLORING

Hey friends,

editorialEarly this month, top-notch ministers from 90 countries met in Montreal, Canada. They spent a fortnight there trying to persuade each other to cut down the use of fos-sil fuels — oil, coal, petroleum. In a bid to ensure that less and less of carbon di oxide (Co2)is spewed into atmosphere.

And the world watched as they bickered and fought. Why? Because what we do in our own country decides the fate of the rest of the planet. Because we humans have managed to pollute the atmosphere so severely, that nature’s delicately-balanced climate system has gone completely haywire.

Sounds too far-fetched? Not really. In fact, if I tell you that the mood in the Montreal meet may play a crucial role in making the glaciers in Greenland vanish, I will not be very far off the mark. The bad news is that the situation is becoming worse. As per

the Montreal bulletins, the Co2 level in the atmosphere is now higher than at any time in the past 650,000 years!!! And the world’s two biggest Co2 emitters, the US and Australia, walked out of the meeting, refusing to commit to carbon cuts.

Some drastic stock taking has to be done — right? Gobar Times plans to begin by understanding the intricate links in the climate chain better. By getting the facts right. Stay with us.
