Dear Panditji,
I read your reply on the disappearance of sparrows & vultures in urban areas. I also
wanted to share some information, which I had read in news about sparrows. Spanish
scientists have found that the reduction in the number of sparrows in many urban areas has
been due to the electromagnetic waves produced by mobiles. Birds avoid places with
electromagnetic contamination. For humans, long-term exposure is hazardous to their health
and causes cancer. But the problem is that birds may not even live that long. I also
liked the article on matchsticks.

Dear Panditji,
You might be aware that Katha (Delhi) published a 32-page children's book on rainforests
and hornbills, called Walk the Rainforest with Niwupah. The book is written
by Aparajita Datta (of the Nature Conservation Foundation, Mysore) and me. The artwork has
been done by Maya Ramaswamy. The book seems to have been well-received, and we were
wondering whether you would like to review the book for Gobar Times. Kindly let us
know if you would like us to send you a copy of the book for review.

Dear Panditji,
Im a Class 8th student of Delhi Public School. I have been a regular reader of Down
To Earth and Gobar Times since three years. I have learnt as well as practised
many methods on conserving environment. Im fond of writing and have written a poem
on renewable resources. I was inspired by my class lecture. And I when I returned home
from school, I wrote a poem. Through this poem, I wish to spread the message of
conservation.
(Due to space constraint, GT is publishing an extract from Sambhavs poem)
Renewable resources
It will be late
It is late
The time when theyll become mutable
Converted to non-renewable.
Land, water and air
Are under perilous condition
They are to bare
For our self-centred missions.
Its easy for us to defile
The nature across miles.
But if they retire
Our lives will be deprived.
The time thats gone
Is the time we have missed
But we can still prevent
The resources sinking unnoticed.

New Delhi.
Dear Panditji,
I am a regular reader of Gobar Times. The poaching of tigers and their declining
numbers has affected every person concerned about wildlife. I felt very sad to read about
the brutal killing of tigers in your magazine.
I am reminded of another issue
here, which deals with the most loyal creatures the dogs and cows. It is very
common to find dogs crushed by cars on the roads. Some of them get hurt so severely that
they can't even go and find their food. I find this every week on my way to school.
I also see cows loitering near the trash cans for food. We often talk about the
conservation of wildlife. I think caring for stray animals is also part of this. I would
be happy if you could suggest ways to bring some change in this issue.
