Hey folks,
I have an absolutely delightful piece of news to share with you. The
government has just announced that it plans to construct separate bicycle paths in every
big city in India! And to make sure that more and more people use these tracks, it is
going to spend money in producing fast, techno-smart bikes with gears and tubeless tyres!!
Right now, I am praying really hard that this plan does not remain in paper
alone
as most other government policies. Why? Because I just hate cars, and I
am desperately looking out for a safe and convenient alternative.
Okay, so all you automobile-addicts think I am mad, right? After all, owning a car is
what all urban Indians dream of. And, boy, look at how fast the auto tribe is growing!
Well, let me remind you that cars are one of the most deadly menaces that our cities
face today. They have taken over the roadsedging cyclists and pedestrians right off
the streets; cause traffic nightmares, and, of course, contribute hugely to the rising
levels of air and noise pollution
Indians will have to be weaned off autos! But how will they move around then?
Are the public transport systems in the cities efficient enough to ferry the billions?
Read this issue of Gobar Times and find out
while I take a ride on my bike.
